The official website of the Ballroom Dance Club and Ballroom Dance Team.

Rutgers Ballroom Dance Team

The team will introduce you to ballroom as a sport- training, competition, excitement... Dancesport. Our purpose is to teach the Club and represent Rutgers Ballroom at collegiate competitions across the Northeast (including our own) and through performances, volunteer work, and teaching.  Whereas Club focuses on steps, Team will focus more on advanced steps, technique, and partnership and teamwork.

Welcome to Dancesport

Team will begin your training from a newcomer level all the way to the stars.

Joining Team

We ask that interested members be on club for at least one semester before joining team.

Done ballroom before and can’t wait? Email our president, we’ll see what we can do.

Requirements:

  • All team members are required to attend club practices. As the hosts of Club, during this time our full attention goes to teaching and helping the club members.

                                     Wednesdays               9:00 - 10:30pm           MPR, Werblin
Sundays                      7:00 -  8:00pm             Upper Gym, College Ave

During Club time, Team members must
    • actively participate and assist Club members
    • dance only with Club members, not with each other

  • All team members are required to attend and participate in the following:

Technique Class        Sunday          8:00 - 9:00pm       College Avenue Gym, Upper Gym.
                                     Recreation Class*

  • Optional practice space is also available:

Practice Time              Tuesday         9:00 - 10:30am       Werblin Multipurpose Room

  • Attendance of at least 75% is mandatory! (please note that you must participate in order for attendance to count, just showing up is not enough.)
  • * Advanced team members are required to enroll and attend the Competition Style class (1334:T01) offered by the Recreation Department http://www1.recreation.rutgers.edu/
As the Competition Style is fast and requires solid mastery of basic figures, newcomers may take any of the following Ballroom Dance classes as an alternative: Basic Training (Boot Camp), Ballroom Dance: Level 1, Ballroom Dance: Level 2, Waltz, Rumba and/or Cha-Cha.

Dues cover coaching fees and competition costs.
