So you know a little (or a lot) about ballroom, you want to become a better dancer, and even represent Rutgers at collegiate competitions? Join the Team!
What you will learn
Our coaches Brian and Iryna work on our style and technique, for all dances in the American and International styles. Check the Calendar for the list of dances we work on every week. If you want to attend competitions (we hope you do, but it's not mandatory), the team will arrange for partners, travels, accommodation and registration.
Where and when we meet
We meet during semester time (all details in the Calendar):
| 6:30 - 7:00 pm | Team practice | Wam-up and Technique |
| 7:00 - 8:00 pm | Team practice | First dance |
| 9:00 - 10:00 pm | Team practice | Second dance |
How to join
You need to be a Club member as well. In particular, a valid RUID or Recreation Membership card is required.
We ask that you are familiar with ballroom dancing, and know at least the lower-bronze steps in two dances (either International or American styles). Attending the Club practices for one semester will get you at a proper level to start the team practices the following semester.
Then come to a practice on Sunday and ask our coaches Brian and Iryna about joining. They decide who may or may not join the team, and decide on the appropriate level for every member.
Team dues are $65 for one semester. Your first practice in on us!
Dress casually, to be comfortable while dancing. Ideally bring dance shoes, or shoes you'll be comfortable with.
How to compete
Attending competition is recommended (it's lots of fun), but not mandatory.
Our coaches will decide at which level (Newcomer, Bronze, Silver, Gold) you may compete in each category (American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard, International Latin).
The team will cover the fees for all of the selected competitions, provided that you meet the requirements detailed in the Constitution. If you wish to attend other competitions, please contact our e-board.
